Yes, I am a smuggler. I’m taking my chances because dirty dishes I cannot live with…
So says one resident in Spokane where the county has banned dishwashing detergents that contain phosphates (more counties and states to follow soon). The phosphates are hard to break down and often end up in rivers and lakes where they promote unnatural algae growth that robs fish of needed oxygen.
The trouble is that many Spokane residents have determined that the green dishwashing alternatives don’t work. How dirty are the dishes? Dirty enough for residents to cross into Idaho to score some Cascade.
