Both of my kids were born during the anti-Bisphenol A (BPA) frenzy. This chemical that is found in many plastic baby bottles has been linked to some diseases.
I never really believed the bottles were dangerous. I never even warm up the formula for my kids (establishing the the mean streets vibe early) and by most accounts, only really hot liquid releases the BPA.
That said, almost no parent with the means to choose otherwise will knowingly choose the thing everyone says is bad. So for years, we’ve used the Born Free brand of bottles (BPA-free). Now it’s gotten a lot easier to find bottles without the chemical as all six major manufacturers have dropped it from their bottles.
So far, the chemical is sticking around in the UK and elsewhere. The whole story is testimony to how groups can make change especially when the health of a kid is brought into the debate.
