One Word: Plastics

Mr. McGuire: I want to say one word to you. Just one word.
Benjamin: Yes, sir.
Mr. McGuire: Are you listening?
Benjamin: Yes, I am.
Mr. McGuire: Plastics.
Benjamin: Just how do you mean that, sir?
The Graduate, 1967

We hear a lot about the dangers of plastics, from baby bottles and chew toys to the damage they do to the environment once we dispose of them. A documentary called Addicted to Plastic (that looks at both the dangers and the upside of recycling, etc) is on the Sundance Channel on April 28.

Filmmaker Ian Connacher conducts an international odyssey revealing the disturbing long-term effects of the most ubiquitous and versatile material ever invented. From water bottles and Styrofoam cups to toothbrushes and garbage bags, in less than a century the pervasive presence of plastics has marked every ecosystem and all aspects of human activity.
