Forty Percent of Kids Born Out of Wedlock

I’ve got some bad news for the social-police trying to maintain some imaginary definition of the American family. The only norm left is that there is no norm. About forty percent of children are born to unwed mothers.

Although the report did not examine the reasons for the increase, [research Stephanie] Ventura and other experts said the trend has been driven by a combination of factors, including the lessening of the social stigma associated with unmarried motherhood, an increase in couples delaying or forgoing marriage, and growing numbers of financially independent women and older and single women who decide to have children on their own after delaying childbearing.

The numbers are even higher in parts of Europe including, Iceland (66%), France (50%), and the UK (44%).
