The Road to Skinny Missing Healthy

A recent survey by the AP and iVillage has some interesting, at totally unsurprising, results. A large number of women surveyed were quite fixated on efforts to lose weight. However, these weight loss efforts were often not accompanied by healthier living.

It’s the marketing stupid.

Diets, unrealistic body types, quick fixes, etc, are all marketed around the clock. Living healthy is not. This is really a key opportunity for the Obama age of prevention-first health care. If we can spend a few of the health care billions on marketing a healthy lifestyle, it just might have an impact. After all, the marketing of ultra-thin bodies and diets we all know don’t work is having no problem getting across.
