Drinking Game: Shrinks Defeat Teen Genes

Over a two and a half year period, several hundred teens were given counseling while others were not. Researchers then broke out the teens who had a variant of a gene associated with binge drinking and drug abuse.

The teens who received no counseling and had that genetic variant were more than twice as likely to have engaged in risky behavior. The teens with the variant who had received counseling were no more likely than teens without the variant to engage in risky behavior.

The shrinks fought the genetics and the shrinks won.
