Wouldn’t it be nice if their was a doctor small enough to go into your veins and organs, find a tumor, and then zap it directly with some medicine? If an Israeli firm can continue to make progress, an incredibly small robot may be able serve that purpose.
Researchers at the Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa have developed a miniature crawling robot, called ViRob, that can crawl through your lungs, find a tumor, and zap it with drugs. The bot, which is one millimeter long and four millimeters from end to end, can snake its way through the body, slipping into blood vessels and navigating through the respiratory and digestive systems…
This is the first microbot that can actually move through various body cavities and fluids and move from body part to body part. Clinical trials might be a ways off, but this is an interesting one to watch.
