A couple of new studies suggest that caffeine could be a powerful tool in the fight against Alzheimer’s. A daily dose of 500 milligrams of caffeine (about what you’d get out of 5 cups of coffee) reversed memory issues in mice.
“The new findings provide evidence that caffeine could be a viable ‘treatment’ for established Alzheimer’s disease, and not simply a protective strategy,” lead author Gary Arendash, a University of South Florida neuroscientist, said in a news release. “That’s important because caffeine is a safe drug for most people, it easily enters the brain, and it appears to directly affect the disease process.”
I am about 300 posts into this blog and I’ve seen some consistent themes develop. Being fat and smoking is bad. Exercise is good. And coffee definitely seems to be worth a chug.
