Is Organic Food Any Healthier?

Is eating organic food any better for you. According to a broad study, the answer is no. Some organic items might be a little better, but overall, the amount of benefit is not of any real significance.

Researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine said consumers were paying higher prices for organic food because of its perceived health benefits, creating a global organic market worth an estimated $48 billion in 2007.

A systematic review of 162 scientific papers published in the scientific literature over the last 50 years, however, found there was no significant difference.

In the studies I have read, it seems like you almost have to break it down food by food, veggie by veggie, to really be sure you are making the right choice in terms of conventional vs organic. I’ve always heard that the real beneficiaries of organic foods are the folks that farm them. I would assume it’s a lot more healthy to gather food from a pesticide-free farm and have seen this angle covered in a few stories.
