Anytime you start a running program over the age of 20 or so, someone will warn you that it’s bad for your knees. You’ll be told to hit the gym and use equipment designed to take the pressure and pounding off your joints.
But does science support the notion that running is bad for your knees? Maybe not.
In a study of marathoners, the subjects’ knees held up remarkably well. And some studies even suggest that regular running (assuming your legs and body are otherwise healthy) can actually make knee problems less likely.
